Robotech MOD F.A.Q

Q:  What is a MOD?

A:  A MOD is a user-made feature to add to Freespace 2.

Q:  What do I need to play the MOD?

A:  To play the MOD, you will need a copy of Freespace 2 and a processor equivalent or better than 233mhZ.

Q:  How do I install the MOD?

A:  To install the MOD, double click on the MOD file and follow the directions given on-screen.

Q:  How do I uninstall the MOD?

A:  To uninstall the MOD, open the MOD uninstall program in the Freespace 2 main folder.

Q:  Can I fly the original Freespace 2 Campaign mission with the MOD installed?

A:  Not as it is now.  There will probably be a second version of the MOD for that purpose.

Q:  How can I change back to the normal Freespace 2 ships?

A: If the MOD you put in wasn't a self-install program, you will have to go through the Freespace 2 folders (maps, effects, ships, and tables) and delete all of the files installed by the MOD.  If only one part of the MOD you installed didn't have a self-install and you have the MOD Pack 2, you will have to run the Pack 2 Uninstall program first, and then delete the others files installed by the MOD pack.  If both packs had the self-install you only have to run both of the uninstalls, starting is MOD Pack 2.

Q: Will there be a Robotech campaign for Freespace 2?

A:  There will be a Robotech campaign based on the series with voices and sounds from the show.

Q:  Have you tried the MODs yourself?

A:  I test all of the MODs before they are released.

Q:  Do the MODs work in multiplayer mode?

A:  Just like all other MODs, this one usually crahses in multiplayer mode.

Q:  I can't get the Alpha / Cat's eye / Quadronos / any other ship in the missions, why ?

A:  We have only released some missions so far, and they only feature some of our craft. However, you can have them by editing yourself a mission in FRED2. Of course, they will all be fetured in later missions.

Q:  I can't see some of the fighters neither in the tech room nor in FRED2's list ?

A:  Well, about the tech room, we are aware fo that problem, caused by the fact that some fighters are hidden to the tech database in FS2 (who would like to know about the Sathanas before its first appearance ?). We will adress it later. Anyway, we haven't "cleaned" the tables yet, which means there are still FS2 ships in them. The next release will feature a Robotech-only ship database, and will therefore be much more readable, both in FS2 and FRED2.

Q:  How do you land ? I finished the first mission and Lisa tells me to land, but i don't know how to do this.

A:  You shouldn't have skipped the training mission you bad boy! Roy explains it to you. But here it is, basically: target the ship you're supposed to land on, target its fighterbay, and then head towards it. When you're in range, Lisa will grant you authorization to land, and all you'll have to do is press ALT-J...

Q:  Can you include the -insert favorite ship here- in your mod?

A:  Well, we are doing this on our free time, and adding ships is pretty hard, so we'll rather focus on gameplay and mission issues from now on. New ships/weapons ideas will GENERALLY be disregarded. However, you still can try.

Q:  I have built a mission myself in FRED2 and it crashes often. What happened?

A:  Make sure you disallow support ships in the mission properties. Our ships don't have docking points, consequently Freespace2 crashes when trying to dock a support ship with them. Anyway, there are not support ships in Robotech.

Q:  How come the landing effect doesn't work in my user-made mission ?

A:  Since we don't have the source code, we had to find ways around to implement some features, such as landing, which is done through FRED 2. Consequently, you have to include some conditions in your mission to have it working. That will also be the case when we release transforming Veritechs. We may consider releasing a template mission later. If you really want to know how it works, mail Damien at damien-weiss@voila.fr

Q:  There are problems with the MOD running in 1024x768.  How can I fix them?

A:  The MOD was designed for lower resolutions only.  Sorry.

Thanks to all the people who asked these questions so I could make this FAQ.
